The work of Denis Wood on cartography is a partial answer to Lefebvre’s question: ‘How many maps, in the descriptive or geographical sense, might be needed to deal exhaustively with a given space, to code and decode all its meanings and contents?’
Collecting maps realized by students in the 80’s and 90’s ‘Everything Sings: Maps for a Narrative Atlas’ maps the neighborhood of Boylan Heights, North Carolina.
It talks about suburban everyday life, offering unique perspectives on the area and on the act of mapping itself.

In 1994, in Italy, a group of artists and architects called STALKER started to organize experimental intervention, explorative and relational practices.
What is relational art: (or also as Socially Engaged Art, Community Based Art), is a form of contemporary art that developed around the mid-1990s and involves participation of the public to the construction or definition of the work in which he is a participant.
It is an art with a strong political and social perspective whose center is the vision of man as a creative animal.
The relational artist abandons the production of typically aesthetic objects and works to create devices that can activate the creativity of the public by transforming the art object into a place of dialogue, comparison and, precisely, of relationship. What the work is actually about is the process, the discovery of the other, the encounter.

What does it mean to be public?
In 1748 Giovan Battista Nolli completed a 12-years-long work realized in the name of pope Benedetto XIV, La nuova Tipografia di Roma.
Rigorous and scientific, the map reduces the city as a binary composition: private spaces are represented in black, public spaces in white.
Surprisingly, the public city is the combination of streets and squares with the interior spaces of churches and palazzi, colonnades, monuments. This choice extends the domain of publicness beyond the facade of buildings, reaching a deeper level of intimacy and connection with the city.

Am I working from home or living inside an office?
By blurring architectural typologies we create new kind of spaces and at the same time we let different functions mix with each other. If my perception of a space is vague, am I still capable of understanding what a space is and how to use it? Am I enabled to use an office as a home, or am I silently ‘invited’ to do it?

During the 50’s a Germany based movement called Bürolandschaft started to investigate a new plan typology based on the idea that a non-hierarchical asset would improve social interaction and the circulation of ideas.
